Leaflets can be one of the most effective marketing techniques but the success of this type of marketing depends primarily on the leaflet design.
A leaflet must grab the recipient’s attention, make them interested in the product or service, and most importantly induce some call to action, whether that’s phoning a number or visiting a website for more information
Here is our step-by-step guide to creating an effective leaflet that will get you customers:
1. Title/headline - this is one of the most important aspects of your leaflet and it should stand out above the rest of your text. Your audience will be initially drawn to read your title and they will decide within seconds whether they want to read the rest of the leaflet. Make it eye catching, attention grabbing and leave them wanting more info by asking them a question.
Examples such as
'Let us show you how to save money on your utility bills each year' 'Do you want to get slim for Summer?'
2. Include a special offer - People are far more likely to retain your flyer if you can include an offer/discount. 3. Benefit - what problem are you solving / how are you different / what service/product are you offering. Make it clear in short and snappy sentences what you are about. 4. Keep content brief - Don't overload your flyer with too much information as people won't read it. Guide interested people into seeking out more information with a sentence such as 'See our website or call us for more info' 5. Call to Action - Following from no.4, make it clear on your design how you can be contacted by clearly providing your number, website or other contact info and make these prominent with a big font or using a different colour to the rest of the text on the leaflet. 7. Visuals - Use visually appealing images that will catch the consumers eye when the leaflet is laying on their doormat. 8. Use Exciting words - As you are keeping your text to a minimum, use power words which excite people and show something you do differently to competitors. Some examples of power words are - avoid, free, bargain, bonus, discover, earn, easy, enjoy, exciting, exclusive, extra, fast, how to, learn, money, mystery, new, profit, save, special, win. 9. Double sided - Something commonly overlooked is that people think they are saving money by printing on just one side of the paper.
The problem is that there is no guarantee which side your flyer is going to land when pushed through a letterbox so a resident may only see a blank piece of paper which they will automatically scoop up and place in the recycling.
10. Paper quality - If your leaflet is wafer thin it could be crumpled simply upon delivery. A thicker flyer not only feels more professional but looks it, and delivers well. This can help your audience to trust your business more. A minimum thickness for any leaflet should be 150gsm.
